Green Salads

A general definition of salad says that it is a mixture of greens with dressing. The green salad is a regular salad, and it is said to be regular because it is cheap and can appear more than twice in a week on the menus of many homes. The green salads are also called garden salads. Green salads should not be mistaken with vegetable salads, as green and leafy vegetables are the main ingredients for it. As for vegetable salads other greens like pepper, cucumber, tomatoes, onion, and carrots may be involved. This is what separates the two types.

The main ingredient in any green salad is green leaves that can be eaten raw like lettuce, garden cress, watercress, cabbage, spinach, escarole, romaine, arugula, fresh herbs, dandelions, sorrel, chicory, chives, and celeriac. The salad dressing is the only non vegetable ingredient present in a green salad and including a dressing is usually optional. Health practitioners have said that it is not very healthy eating vegetables raw because of the presence of some bacteria, thus salt and olive oil can be used to garnish it and keep it safe from bacteria. Olive oil and raw vegetables have also been linked to reduced mortality. They may be eaten at the beginning of a meal or after the main course. They are easy to digest and have a lot of positive effects on the health and the general well being. It takes 5 mins to prepare a bowl of green salad.
